Postpartum Consultation

Long distance travel consults; Please note due to increased gas charges; we had to add an additional $25.00 travel fee to any home visit outside of the 20-mile radius of 21045 zip code. Thank you for understanding.

IN-HOME-CONSULTATIONS WITH ANN FAUST

Our initial consultation is not time-based but charged per visit. But if you want some idea, it usually takes us to do the initial home visits we ask you to give us anywhere from 90 minutes to 2 hours (this time is nearly double for multiples) one-on-one.

During the first visit :

Detailed history taking

  • ​Examining and evaluating the baby’s oral cavity
  • Examining and evaluating the mother’s breasts/chest for lactation,
  • Transfer checks for the baby
  • Latch-on techniques
  • Normal infant behaviour
  • Exploring the strategies to achieve good lactation relationship, in addition to your short and long-term goals.
  • Throughout the consult we will answer your questions as they arise, but it may be a good idea to have a small log of questions prior to the consult. Many mothers find it useful to write their questions down either on their phone or a small notebook as they come to their mind.

We will (with your permission) send a detailed report to your baby’s health-care provider for more rounded care for your baby. Mothers encouraged to follow-up with the lactation consultant within the next 24-36 hours after the first consultation to discuss how the things are progressing and if there are any further adjustments needed by secure text or phone. There is no extra charge for these follow-ups.

CLINIC VISITS (PROBLEM-BASED) VISITS:

We are offering 55 minutes clinic appointments in 5457 Twin Knolls Rd Suite 300- N16 Columbia 21045 in our Lactation Clinic

During the first visit
  • Detailed history taking,
  • Examining and evaluating the baby’s oral cavity
  • Examining and evaluating the mother’s breasts/chest for lactation
  • Transfer checks for the baby(ies)
  • Latch-on techniques
  • Normal infant behaviour
  • Exploring the strategies to achieve good breastfeeding/chestfeeding relationship, in addition to your short and long-term feeding goals

FOLLOW-UP VISITS:

Although many feeding challenges will be improved and/or corrected with the first visit, like many good habits this may take some correct practice. In these times or for more challenging issues we may need to see you again.

We normally like to keep-in-touch with the families regularly by text or phone to establish the new techniques, and there is no charge for this quick check-ins. We may also ask you to come to the clinic for a follow-up. Or you may prefer to have an in-home follow-up. These in-person follow-ups usually important when there are issues with weight gain or transfer as well as post frenectomy families.

There is no charge for a quick email or a phone consultation (Less than 5 minutes). However please note that most breastfeeding problems need a face-to-face consultation.
