I never write reviews, but my experience with Dr. Ann was such an incredible blessing on our breastfeeding journey that I want to take a moment to recommend her to others who may be looking for a lactation consultant. I was in agonizing pain every time I fed my newborn, but everyone in the hospital (nurses, pediatrician, and even the hospital-employed lactation nurse) told me my latch looked perfect and that baby’s mouth looked anatomically normal. Everyone told me I just had to toughen up and get used to the calluses that build up on the nipples during the first few days I’d breastfeeding. But I couldn’t believe this was true. I was in such severe nipple pain that I felt ready to give up entirely. I found Baby and Me on Google maps and reached out because of the many other positive reviews. I’m so glad I did. Moira, the office assistant, was my first point of contact and she was amazing, answering my emails on weekends and managing to wiggle Dr. Ann’s schedule around to fit me in early since she could tell I was in so much pain. Dr. Ann came to our house the very next day and was like a sunbeam of hope and solutions from the moment she came in the door. She found that baby did have some tongue tie and that I had absolutely no skin left on the top of my nipples (this was clearly not a case of just grinning and bearing it). I felt so validated that I wasn’t just a wimpy mama and there were real things that could be fixed. Dr. Ann showed me positions, latch adjustments, and tongue exercises I can do with baby to help correct the problems. She gave me a nipple shield to use temporarily and hydrogel patches to heal my nipples. Since her visit, my nursing pain has gone down from an 8 or 9 out of 10 to a consistent 1-3 (of course with occasional bad ouchies when baby starts out on a bad latch, but now I know how to help her adjust!) I would recommend Dr. Ann to anyone struggling with nursing pain and feeling invalidated in their struggle. She is absolutely the best! Thank you, Dr. Ann!
